The New York Fashion week has come and gone and this year has definitely been quite an exciting one! We have had dynamic designs from Tommy Hilfiger, Altuzarra, Givenchy, Victoria Beckham and Kanye West. For those who didn’t quite catch it all, here’s a little update on the hottest trends for Spring/Summer 2016:
COVER UP BUT BARE THEM SHOULDERS!
The modern woman of 2016 knows just how much skin to show. Too much is too trashy but just the right amount can be classy and elegant. Sleeves are back but ladies, keep your shoulders bare.
LENGTHY AND LOOSE!
Remember Maxi-dresses? Well they are back! The extra-long, loose and fluid look is in. Fewer jackets are cinched at the waist. Outerwear, pants and dresses fall beautifully to the ankle or heel.
Contemporary culture has taught the average woman to conceal her natural beauty, by applying heavy make-up. The woman of spring/summer 2016 is a natural beauty, with discreet, barely there makeup that focuses on radiant, well-hydrated skin. It gives a woman a glowing, wholesome look.
KANYE’S TAKE ON AU NATUREL…
West’s collaboration with Adidas launched last week and fans were in awe! “I’m here to crack the pavement,” West announced to the crowd. “I want to create something better for you.” And boy did he deliver!
It took 18 months to make his collection of sportswear happen. At the show, he staged it with the Italian performance artist Vanessa Beecroft, which added to the natural, ethnic and pure ambiance of his collection. He elaborated on his vision by featuring an array of flesh-toned body stockings to convey the notion of the pared-back-to-nothingness, which is a Beecroft trademark. 50 models of all shapes and sizes walked to the hypnotic, electronic chords that resonate within Kanye West’s latest sound.
LOOSE AND WAVY TRESSES
Free flowing to accentuate the natural look, wavy hair fell to the shoulders for Victoria Beckham’s collection, whereas Tadashi Shoji, DVF, Betsey Johnson created a more wet look for their collections.
SEA BREEZE AND COTTON THREADS
Altuzarra revisited his Basque roots with espadrilles, linen and the crumpled look — almost as if clothes had just been pulled out of a beach bag. Victoria Beckham used urban surf as her inspiration, Rosie Assoulin showed a long-strapped green bikini layered over a printed blouse and Caribbean island life inspired Tommy Hilfiger.
One of our very own, Candice Swanepoel took quite a tumble while walking the runway at the Givenchy spring-summer 2016 show during New York Fashion Week on Friday and suffered… some scratches.
Dressed in a black, semi-sheer 3/4-length dress and stiletto red and black fringed ankle boots, the 26-year-old South African Victoria’s Secret Angel, tripped and fell on the runway. Security men helped her up and she continued walking the catwalk, adjusting her outfit.
