We are thrilled to share the latest and final painting of Tarina Patel, to be auctioned at the GLAMOUR AID Charity Dinner and Art Auction. The striking and expressive piece of Tarina Patel was painted by one of South Africa’s most sought after artists, Lionel Smit. Given Lionel Smit’s reputation, this is a wonderful opportunity for art enthusiasts and collectors to purchase one of his stunning artworks, with proceeds going to charity.
Smit was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1982; he is a self-taught artist who now lives and works in Cape Town. He is best known for his contemporary portraiture executed through monumental canvasses and sculptures. Smit exhibits locally in South Africa where he is considered one of the countries youngest investment artists. He is currently represented in London and Hong Kong, with his work being included in exhibitions and art fairs around the globe.
Over the past 10 years Smit has established a substantial international following with collectors ranging from the Standard Chartered Bank and the Laurence Graff Art Collection to Rand Merchant Bank. He was recently honoured with a Ministerial Award from the Department of Arts and Culture. A highlight of his career has been the publication of one of his paintings on the cover of Christie’s Auction Catalogue in London.
