We had the pleasure of meeting Steven Turpin recently at a Morocconoil Product Launch event in Cape Town & Joburg. We thought our readers would like to find out more about this charming brand ambassador.
A Montreal native with a background in fine arts and theater design, Steven discovered a hunger for fashion and beauty early on in his career. “I loved the visual aspect and creativity which studying makeup design allowed me to express,” he shares.
Inspired by his studies, he decided to become a hair and makeup artist, gaining experience with brands including M.A.C Cosmetics and Aveda, building his editorial portfolio and participating in high profile campaigns, which only served to reinforce his love for the beauty industry.
While preparing for a big photo shoot for a major retailer in Canada, a friend recommended Moroccanoil, “I was working with long extensions and I needed something that would make the hair really silky and manageable.” Experiencing first-hand the proven results of Moroccanoil, Steven then contacted the corporate office in hopes to learn more about this amazing product. This resulted in a chance meeting with Co-founder Carmen Tal, which quickly led to freelance work with the brand. He eventually joined the Moroccanoil creative team full-time in 2008 and has not looked back.
Now with over a decade experience, Steven is active in the fashion runway and event circuit, including the prestigious New York and London Fashion Weeks—working with top designers such as Badgley Mischka, Catherine Malandrino, DelPozo and Paul Smith.
As an International Educator and Spokesperson for Moroccanoil, Steven travels extensively for the brand, sharing product news and updates on both hair care and body lines. A master of his craft, he avidly studies the latest techniques and hair trends as they appear on the fashion scene. Transforming the hair of beautiful women, from a chic daytime look to a glamorous red carpet-ready style, comes easily to Steven as he utilizes his wide range of experience and natural talent for the stage.
Steven’s passion for the industry continues: “I love the transformative quality of hair and beauty—how it can make people feel confident and their most beautiful.”
