First Thursdays Johannesburg is a free cultural experience where art galleries and other cultural attractions in Braamfontein and Rosebank stay open late on the first Thursday of every month. More than just a transplant of the successful Cape Town edition of First Thursdays, this edition takes on its own style – inspired by the complex and culturally rich city that is Johannesburg.
What we’re most excited about is that First Thursdays Johannesburg has officially launched in Newtown – the home of our client Life Group of Companies’ restaurant – The Potato Shed.
The Potato Shed is a celebration to craft and a cathedral to fire that embodies the spirit of a bootlegger brewery, coupled with that of a Southern American barbeque smokehouse. It’s a place where you can feast your eyes on beautiful, modern dishes that are prepared with pit smokers, fire pits, robata grills, and wood-fired ovens. As you sit at your table overlooking the iconic Market Theatre and Miriam Makeba Square, you will feel the heat, see the flames lick and watch the smoke as it lazily drifts upwards from the open kitchen – all while sipping on artisanal craft beer, barrel brewed cocktails, and award-winning wines.
And if you’re not convinced yet, check this out:
- The Potato Shed will have live jazz on play as well as a lamb on the spit
- Workshop Newtown is gearing up to show you that FASHION IS ART
- Sophiatown is on show at The Market Theatre
- There are 2000 parking bays available
Newtown is the Jozi hub everyone’s talking about right now, so get there this Thursday to experience why!
