GUCCI WOMEN’S PREFALL COLLECTION 2012 – Romantic, Feminine and Contemporary
This collection showcases a new romanticism with a focus on an eclectic aesthetic which is both introspective and well travelled. For Prefall 2012, contrasts are drawn between a singular femininity and contemporary instinct. “This season I wanted to intersect romanticism with minimalism by pairing unexpected elements. This collection of nuances and subtleties strikes a modern balance between strong and soft,” said Creative Director Frida Giannini.
Hints of the couture of the Fifties and glimpses of metropolitan grunge are evident. There is a sophisticated game on necklines and waistlines with an elegant, equestrian attitude along with prints and warm earth tones for innate optimism.
Silhouette
They are clean and linear while also being elongated and effortless. Oversized proportions for coats and cabans are paired with tapered pants and skirts. Sartorial jackets from the male wardrobe are worn with slim creased riding pants. Deconstructed blazers and wide, flowing pants are paired. For daywear either cocoon lines or shapes fitted to the body with studded or braided belts that outline the waist. The plissé skirts and wide sleeves make for a more fluid, romantic silhouette. Oversized shirts in silk georgette are worn together with high tuxedo cummerbunds and long skirts. There is a focus on masculine tones such as grey, camel, and midnight, and feminine shades such as red, scarlet, raspberry, and coral blush. Oshibana, an alluring floral print from the Archive, repeats across the pleats and gathers of draping blouses and dresses.
Materials
The maxi cardigans and sweaters are in wool and cashmere with 3D workings. There is also masculine flannel and iconic silks along with printed pony skin for a double-breasted coat with suede borders. Natural-coloured furs, such as fox, are inlaid with designs or hand loomed for a double effect. There are also metal studs making for an urban glamour.
Evening
Airy, fluid volumes in chiffon or pleated georgette create a new romantic image with plunging necklines and tiny waistlines. Tridimensional jewels such as butterfly and dragonfly brooches embellish long dresses. An understated gown turns to reveal a surprising, eye-catching train.
Accessories
There is a focus on the utmost craftsmanship. Echoing the House’s riding heritage, the Stirrup bag evolves into a soft-shaped variant. Horse-shaped hardware from the Archive adorns clutches and shoulder bags. Leather covered bamboo handles for chic handbags. Pants tuck into boots, golden studs decorate sandals, and tassels characterise high-heel moccasins. Leather gloves and aviator sunglasses provide the finishing touch.
